Our Story

​Established in April 2023, Salt Kayaks is a South African manufacturer committed to building world class composite kayaks through thoughtful design, quality materials and hands on craftsmanship.

​

Our range includes six models: the Odyssey K2 (Pro), Challenger K2 (Beginner), Maverick K1 (Pro), Endurance K1 (Intermediate), Explorer K1 (Beginner) and Scout K1 (Junior). Each is available in a range of constructions and colourways to suit different paddlers and performance requirements.

In 2026, Salt Kayaks took a major step forward by acquiring Knysna Racing Kayaks. The acquisition brings decades of manufacturing experience, established production capabilities and a significantly larger factory into the business. With increased production capacity and the potential for shorter lead times, we are better positioned to serve paddlers in South Africa and around the world.

Based in Knysna, South Africa, we take a hands on approach to building and refining our boats. We source materials from trusted local and international suppliers, while the diverse conditions of the Knysna lagoon provide an ideal environment for testing our designs.
